“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”
– Nikola Tesla
What if I told you that we are simply a mass of energy manifested as form?
Sounds intense right?
Maybe a bit silly?
Quantum physics has found that within the atom, the basic building block of life, there is actually nothing there but energy waves – almost like an invisible force field. Though it is immaterial and lacks substance, these energy waves can not only be measured, but their effects can also be seen in the way of what matter they take form based on how fast the waves are vibrating. The atoms within all things are simply energy vibrating at certain rates. We’ve actually never truly “touched” anything ever, because all matter is simply energy. What we’re feeling is the electromagnetic force of our electrons pushing away from another’s electrons. How crazy is that?
A grain of sand, a bird, a rock, a wave within the ocean. Living things have more complex vibrations, and non-living more simple. Regardless, it is all energy.
This even means us.
Our atoms are constantly vibrating, giving off, and absorbing, energy and light. This process does not stop until our hearts are no longer beating. Without our atoms, we would not have a body, let alone have the energy to survive. Each cell in our body has atoms within it that contain a positive and negative charge which are lined up much like a battery. Each cell produces roughly 1.4 volts of energy. Multiplying that by the number of cells in our body, which is about 50 trillion, equals to about 700 trillion volts of electricity coursing through us at any given time. Comparing that with a typical household outlet in the US that has only 120 volts of electricity, 700 trillion volts is a ton of energy!
When we really get down to it, we’re just a bunch of balls of energy walking around this planet. What an image, huh?
This energy can even be measured outside of the body up to a certain distance. Believe it or not, our hearts have a stronger electromagnetic field than our brains. Researchers have found that when two people are in proximity or touching, there is an energetic transference between both.
The energy that moves throughout us is what the Chinese calls Chi or Qi. The fact that we’re both made up of energy and can transfer energy is what the energy healing practice of Reiki is founded on. This energy is also what makes up the energy field that is referred to as our aura.
Moving even further into the magic that is the atom, each atom has its own distinct and unique frequency, or vibration. Quantum physicists have measured what happens when two atoms collide together. They either synchronously meet, or asynchronously meet – creating harmonious effect or a detrimental effect.
Allow me to bring this down to earth a bit and pose a few questions for you:
Have you ever walked into a room and felt a tangible tension in the air?
Have you ever been around someone and felt completely drained afterwards, or alternatively, incredibly energized?
Have you ever sensed someone’s true feelings despite the words they’re saying?
If you answered yes to any and all of these, you’ve picked up on the energy around you.
Much like the way a magnet works, energy either attracts like or repels un-alike. Most of our reactions to people, places, and things are based on an unconscious response to the energy being put out. We may notice that for some reason we get a bad feeling about someone or some place. We may find we gravitate more towards people who are like us and distance ourselves from those who are not, often saying things like “I was attracted to them like a magnet” or “We’re on the same frequency or wavelength” or “I just don’t like their vibes.” This is energy at hand. Our waves are either syncing up or not syncing up with those around us, always. It never stops. The energy we’re made up of connects us to all things we come into contact with. This is the theory of quantum entanglement which is even further into the rabbit hole, but I’ll save that for another time!
There is a constant undercurrent of energy that is pulsating throughout us and throughout the universe. Most of the time, we subconsciously sense this energy without even being remotely aware that it’s there. The truth is that it is, always. Not only do our physical bodies produce this energy, our thoughts and emotions do too. Each time we think a thought, our neurons begin firing in rapid pulses across our synapses that create an energy wave across our neocortex. This energy wave can be measured in terms of electrical voltage. Every time we experience an emotion, the same thing happens. And what do we know about energy? It can never be destroyed, only transformed. Our thoughts and feelings are actual energy vibrations that can manifest themselves into matter, into form, into our literal realities. I talked about this a bit here. We’ve also learned the importance of gratitude and loving ourselves. The purpose of these practices is to develop a more positive state of mind and being. This shift into a positive state subtly affects our realities because of the truth that is energy and vibrations. And we can actually strengthen our ability to sense and work with this constant stream of energy on a moment to moment basis.
“Everything is energy and that is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you can not help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”
– Albert Einstein
So what does all of this mean for us?
Well first, this is why working with things like affirmation, gratitude journals, and mantras are so beneficial. As we begin re-framing our negative thoughts and beliefs into more positive and productive ones, our frequencies become higher. When we live in a state of anger, fear, etc. we lower our frequencies. Our energy becomes blocked and our atoms start vibrating at a slower rate, dampening our energetic fields. This blocked energy can manifest itself in the form of sickness and disease, as well as mood disorders like depression. The quality of the substances we take in also determine the rate of our frequencies. Have you ever eaten unhealthy food and felt your energy actually lower? This is the effect of low frequency, or low energy, substances which is why there is such a huge importance to eating fresh, live, organic foods that have literal energy in them. Things like alcohol and drugs also lower our frequencies. They dull our energy bodies.
Secondly, as we’ve learned that our thoughts and emotions are vibrations that act as magnets, if we consciously choose more positive thoughts and emotions, we’re opening space for more quality and high frequency experiences and people that match our own frequency. We know that life is simply a mirror of the life that is within us. Thinking negatively or allowing ourselves to stay stuck within things like anger and fear, we are only going to attract more things and people that solidify those states. The Universe is simply matching us. This is why it’s so important to become mindful of our energy states, whether emotional or mental. The better we treat ourselves, the better we take care of ourselves, the higher our energetic frequency becomes, and our realities start to shift to match us. We must remember to choose that which we desire, and most importantly, live out that choice. Compassion is going to attract compassion. Positivity is going to attract positivity. Gratitude is going to attract more reasons to be grateful. We always have a choice. Of course, I’m not saying to ignore the lower frequency emotions that may come up, as it’s imperative that we feel them fully to allow them space to pass through and not sit stagnant, blocking our energy. Or even worse, lash out destructively because of them. We feel them, and we choose to shift. There are productive ways to deal with these types of energy, which I will go over in a future post. I’d also like to note that “lower frequency” does not equate “bad.” Far from it actually. They can be extremely helpful. There is a reason it has manifested itself. It’s the reality of duality. It’s our responsibility to dive deep within it to understand its message, learn from it, and move forward. The issue only comes when we choose to stay there.
Additionally, as we begin increasing our vibrational frequency, we are honoring the Divine within us – the Divine is high frequency. It is love, it is gratitude, it is joy, it is compassion. We are stepping more fully into our souls, our higher selves. The part of us which knows and understands that we are here for a reason, we have a purpose, and we are all intimately connected to one another as well as the Universe, God, Spirit, whatever it is that you refer to it as. When we feel more connected to our souls, we can more fully operate from a place of Divine love and truth. We recognize that we are the creators of our reality and we have a responsibility to show up fully and completely as we are meant to.
So, now that we’ve learned what energy is, how it works, and what it means for us, I invite you to contemplate a bit on how this shows up in your lives, and please do share with me any realizations or thoughts you may have on this as I love hearing from you!
Tomorrow, I plan to share an exercise that can help demonstrate how focusing positive energy can actually shift our experience! I’m excited to share this as I’ve personally worked with this before and noticed some amazing results. This is the start of a series in which I plan to share more about how we can actually work with the energy around us and within us, as well as tools and techniques for healing, clearing, manifestation, and transformation.
